The head of the field operations department at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, Yousef Ezzo, announced that the Tal Hamis area, northeast of al-Hasakah, witnessed the flooding of more than 400 houses as a result of the floods, which necessitated the intervention of the Syrian Civil Defense teams.
In a statement published by SANA on Tuesday, Ezzo explained that the Syrian Civil Defense teams are working to raise earthen berms and open waterways to drain water, in addition to evacuating civilians from the affected villages to safer areas, in light of the lack of shelters so far in the area.
He added that the Civil Defense and Emergency Response teams continue to provide basic necessities such as mattresses, water, food and medicines, in addition to carrying out census operations for the affected families and houses and assessing their needs.
The ministry is working in high-level coordination with international organisations, including the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as well as Save the Children, the Red Cross and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, he said, with the aim of strengthening the humanitarian response and ensuring that support reaches those affected in al-Hasakeh province.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian Arab Red Crescent participated, at dawn on Tuesday, in evacuating a number of families from the Al-Meridian neighborhood in the city of Al-Hasakah to safer areas, with the return of the flood of the Al-Khabur River, and the entry of water into the homes of the people in the neighborhoods of Al-Merdian, Al-Nashwa and Gweiran.
The Early Warning and Preparedness Department at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management warned on Sunday that the rainfall will be heavy in the coming days in the areas of Ras al-Ain, al-Derbasiyah, Amuda, al-Qahtaniyah, al-Malikiya, Tal Hamis, al-Yarubiya al-Qamishli, and up to the city of al-Hasakah.
