Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho of Spanish first football team Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that no player is above accountability at the club, emphasizing that the badge is the only thing protected from criticism.
In the same context, Mourinho sent a clear message during the press conference before the match against German club Leipzig in the third round of the unified group stage of the UEFA Champions League, saying: "Here, the only thing above accountability is the club badge. No player is above accountability. It is not about status, captain's armband, or the amount paid to sign him. What makes a player above accountability is his level on the pitch."
For his part, the 63-year-old manager confirmed that Vinicius will start on Wednesday against Leipzig, without specifying whether he will replace Yannick Djimandi who faces his former team. He said: "I cannot disclose details. Vinicius is a left winger, and I have been able to use him in other positions in some cases, but this is his position. That is all I can confirm, and Djimandi does not need to know if he will play or not, so you will see that on Wednesday."
Mourinho noted that the team lacks much to reach the desired level, but he is not stubborn in his ideas. He concluded: "I fully understand the high expectations at Real Madrid. I have spent three years here, and we still have much work to do for development. I am open to analysis, understanding matters, and seeking solutions."
These comments come days before the "Clasico" match against league leaders Barcelona, who have not tasted defeat, where Real Madrid has the chance to get closer to qualifying for the knockout stages with their third consecutive victory.
