Netanyahu claims right-wing majority, calls for formation of national right-wing government
Netanyahu claims right-wing majority after Israeli elections, urging formation of a strong national government.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed on Wednesday that the right-wing bloc holds a clear and decisive majority in the Knesset elections held on Tuesday, calling for the formation of a strong national right-wing government. This came during a speech he delivered before a gathering of Likud party supporters in Jerusalem, with Channel 12 broadcasting his statements in which he affirmed that Likud is the largest party in Israel.

Netanyahu added that the right-wing bloc enjoys a majority among the entire Zionist and Jewish public, stressing the necessity of not forming a government that relies on anti-Zionist Arab parties. He also addressed the Iranian file, stating that Israel stands before a historic opportunity to cooperate with US President Donald Trump to eliminate the existential threat from Iran.

For his part, exit poll updates showed a tie between Netanyahu’s camp and the leader of the "Yesh Atid" party, Gadi Eisenkot, with each securing 51 seats. According to the Broadcasting Authority update, Likud led with 27 seats, followed by "Yesh Atid" with 21, while the "Meretz" party obtained 13 seats and the Joint List 11. Meanwhile, Channel 13’s update awarded Likud and "Yesh Atid" 27 and 23 seats, respectively.

The Israeli Election Committee indicated that the voting turnout reached 77.7 percent, an increase of 7.1 percent compared to the 2022 elections, marking the highest rate since 1999. Polling stations closed at 10:00 PM local time, while any camp requires 61 seats out of 120 to form the government.
