Spanish club Real Madrid have officially signed Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva from Manchester City during the current summer transfer window.
Real Madrid said in an official statement that the club has reached an agreement with Bernardo Silva to join the team on a two-season contract, until June 30, 2028.
Silva's arrival at Real Madrid comes after years with Manchester City, where he was one of the main elements of the English team's squad and won many domestic and continental titles.
The Portuguese player has been one of Europe's most prominent attacking midfield stars in recent years, thanks to his ability to play in more than one position, create chances and make his goalscoring contributions.
Silva is expected to be a strong addition to Real Madrid's squad during the new season, as the club seeks to strengthen its ranks with players with great experience on the European stage, coinciding with the start of Jose Mourinho's second term with the Royal Club.
Silva violates secret deal with Real Madrid
Manchester City midfielder Silva was forced to back out of a secret deal to sign Real Madrid this summer.
Sources revealed to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" that Silva was on the cusp of an official signing with Atletico Madrid, as the two parties reached a full agreement on the terms of the contract.
The newspaper pointed out that the two parties had already agreed to sign the official contracts, last Thursday morning, as this was the only time given by the Portuguese team as a vacation for the Manchester City star.
It explained that Silva decided to freeze and cancel his final agreement with the management of the Rojiblancos, after he received an offer from Real Madrid at the last minute before signing.
It was reported that the Portuguese player preferred to go through the experience of working with his compatriot Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid to sign with Atletico, and Silva was also linked with a move to Barcelona, but the two parties did not reach a final agreement.
A blow to Barcelona.. have Arsenal agreed with Atletico Madrid on Alvarez?
Arsenal continue to aggressively seek the deal of Argentine striker Julian Alvarez during the summer transfer window to bolster their forward line next season.
Alvarez has been sparking a fiery feud in the summer mercato, with Real Madrid making an offer worth €150 million, but it was rejected by Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona still put Alvarez as the first choice to bolster their attack next season, with Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal also interested in the Argentine star.
For his part, journalist Jordi Jota, from the Spanish program "El Chiringito", claimed that Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement with Arsenal regarding Alvarez.
"Gil Marin called Laporta last Sunday to tell him that Julián (Alvarez) is not for sale. My question is: is Julian really not for sale? Because Atletico have reached a final agreement with Arsenal to sell Alvarez."
He explained that this agreement includes a transfer fee of 50 million euros, in addition to the addition of Gunners striker Victor Giukiris joining Atleti.
