The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned on Saturday evening the wide-scale Israeli aggression targeting the city of Hebron in the West Bank, which resulted in the demolition of dozens of homes and the forced displacement of approximately 1,500 Palestinians from their residences. The organization warned of the serious repercussions of Israeli plans aimed at altering the demographic and geographical character of the city and its surroundings.
Violations of International Law
The organization, in a statement published on its official website, quoted Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed emphasizing that home demolitions and forced displacement constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. He pointed out that these measures fall within the framework of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement policies carried out by the Israeli occupation forces and settlers.
Closure of Holy Sites
Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed condemned the continued Israeli violations against holy sites in Hebron, including the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque and preventing worshippers from reaching it. The Secretary-General considered this a violation of freedom of worship and the sanctity of holy places, holding the occupation authorities fully responsible for the consequences of these violations.
International Demands
The Secretary-General called on the international community and the Security Council to take urgent action to stop the aggression on Hebron and prevent the displacement of its residents, as well as to hold those responsible for violations accountable and provide international protection for the Palestinian people. Occupation forces had intensified their raids and military operations in various areas of the West Bank, tightening the closure of Hebron's entrances, which forced dozens of Palestinians to evacuate their homes.
In a related context, occupation forces arrested 15 Palestinians in Nablus governorate, continuing house raids and assaults on residents, coinciding with attacks carried out by settlers targeting farmers and agricultural workers.
