Only three Syrian universities in the "Simago" global ranking for 2026
Harvard University in the United States is the first in the world and Oxford in the United Kingdom is in the tenth place

The "Simago" World Ranking of Universities and Research Centers included only three Syrian universities in its lists for this year: Damascus University, Aleppo University, and Latakia University.

Damascus University came in first place locally and ranked 8201 globally, followed by Aleppo University in second place locally and 8732 globally, while Tishreen University ranked third at the level of Syria and 9558 globally.

Classification Criteria

SIMAGO is one of the most prominent international indicators that measure the performance of universities based on three main axes:

Scientific research (50%): The volume, quality, and number of citations published

Innovation (30%): Patents and scientific references in technical fields.

Community Impact (20%): The university's digital presence and the extent to which its research relates to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The ranking is based mainly on data from the Scopus database, which requires a minimum amount of scientific output to list universities.

Harvard University maintained the first rank globally, while American and Chinese universities dominated the top nine, followed by the British University of Oxford in tenth place.
