OpenAI enables communication with AI agents via text messages
OpenAI launches a new feature allowing US Pro subscribers to communicate with AI agents via text messages.

OpenAI has begun rolling out a new feature that allows users to communicate with their personal AI agents, "Dot," via text messages and assign them tasks to complete and monitor, as part of a pilot experience for "Pro" subscribers in the United States.

The American tech website "TechTimes" reported on Thursday that the feature allows sending texts, images, and voice messages to AI agents, while also enabling them to send automatic updates to users regarding the progress of assigned tasks, without the need to open the "ChatGPT" app.

The service supports "iMessage" on "iPhone" devices and "RCS" technology used in "Android" phones, allowing users to communicate with their agents through familiar messaging applications.

To activate the feature, users must access the "Dot" agent's profile within the "ChatGPT" app, select "Texting," and ensure that "iMessage" is enabled on "iPhone" devices or "RCS" on "Android" devices.

"OpenAI" clarified that it collaborated with "Linq" to provide the necessary technical infrastructure for messaging, noting that security tests were conducted to verify the service's integrity.

The company emphasized that communication remains confined between the user and their personal agent, as others cannot message them, and messages sent by the agent are restricted to the owner only.

The feature supports synchronizing the agent's memory between conversations within the app and text messages, allowing it to retain previous information and context and continue executing tasks without requiring the user to re-enter instructions each time.

This move comes amid growing competition in the personal AI agent market, with tech companies focusing on developing tools capable of executing tasks and interacting with users outside traditional chat applications.
