The Syrian Baking Company has opened the rehabilitated automated Safita Bakery, which has a daily production capacity of 22 tons and 45 tons in emergency situations, ensuring bread for approximately 150,000 people and 40 local communities.

The Syrian Baking Company opened the automated Safita Bakery, after its rehabilitation, today, Thursday, with a production capacity of 22 tons daily and 45 tons in emergency situations, ensuring bread for approximately 150,000 people and 40 local communities.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Engineer Maher Al-Hasan, confirmed that the bakery covers the needs of approximately 150,000 people, noting that its rehabilitation is part of the efforts made to improve the reality of bakeries and enhance their ability to meet citizens' needs, falling within reconstruction efforts and strengthening basic services.

For his part, Safita region director Asaad Al-Taweel explained that comprehensive rehabilitation works lasted six months, raising the bakery's production capacity to an average of 22 tons daily, which can reach 36 tons daily, while the maximum capacity in emergency situations is 45 tons, enhancing its ability to respond to demand and ensure regular bread distribution.

Marian Ward, the sector director for the World Food Programme in Syria, clarified that the project was implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and the German government, supported by a German grant, noting that the bakery can now produce an amount of bread that is approximately 50 percent higher than before.

The opening of the bakery comes after the rehabilitation of its lines and equipment and the enhancement of its production capacity, which strengthens its readiness to continue operations and ensures a more stable supply of bread for the residents of Safita city and the surrounding villages and communities.

The Syrian Baking Company is working on implementing development and rehabilitation programs for public bakeries in cooperation with national entities and international organizations, with the aim of improving the service reality, ensuring the continuity of high-quality bread production, and meeting citizens' needs in various governorates.
