Opening of facilities in Tel Rifaat after rehabilitation with international organizations to support food security and crop storage.

The mill and silos in the city of Tel Rifaat in northern Aleppo countryside were opened today, Sunday, after completing rehabilitation and equipping works in cooperation between the Syrian Grain Corporation and the organizations 'Shafaq' and 'Global Communities', aiming to enhance wheat storage and milling capacities, support food security, and provide bakeries with flour needs.

The director of the Syrian Grain Corporation branch in Aleppo, Engineer Mahmoud Abu Bakr, clarified that the governorate marketed approximately 350,000 tons of wheat this year, of which about 100,000 tons were transported or stored outdoors, noting that the corporation is working to rehabilitate facilities to store the entire crop within silos. He specified that the storage capacity of the Tel Rifaat silo is 12,000 tons, and will be ready to receive the wheat crop from local farmers starting from the next season.

For his part, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim, deputy head of the Azaz region, pointed out that restarting the mill and silos comes after a halt lasting about 14 years, representing an important step to improve services provided to residents in the area. In turn, Abdul Hakim Aboud, programs officer at 'Shafaq' organization, clarified that rehabilitation works included civil, mechanical, electrical, and engineering aspects, in addition to equipping administrative offices and facility utilities.

Aboud added that the project contributes to supporting food security, securing flour for bakeries, and providing job opportunities for residents. This step constitutes a restoration of the grain sector's infrastructure in the area, and improving capacities to receive, store, and mill crops, thereby supporting bread production stability and meeting population needs.
