Outlawed groups in Suwayda province prevented, on Wednesday, approximately 100 employees from reaching their workplaces in the As-Sawda al-Sughra area in the northern countryside, after stopping their bus at the Um al-Zaytoun checkpoint under their control. The governor of Suwayda stated via his Telegram channel that the employees belong to the Transport, Civil Affairs, and Administrative Development directorates, as well as the Consular Services Office, and were heading to their workplaces to follow up on service matters and process citizens' affairs.
Quteiba Azam, the director of media relations at the Suwayda Media Directorate, told SANA that the groups stopped the bus carrying the employees and prevented them from reaching their workplaces in the As-Sawda al-Sughra area, which is under state control. He pointed out that this affects the services provided by official institutions and hinders the processing of citizens' affairs, stressing that the Syrian government provides its services to the people of Suwayda through directorates affiliated with the province in that area.
For his part, Suwayda Governor Mustafa Al-Bakour confirmed on the 18th of the current month that the residents of the province suffer from the high cost of living and security breakdown under the control of outlawed groups. He highlighted the existence of threats and kidnappings, and noted that these groups hinder solutions to preserve their interests. This comes as the Ministry of Energy condemned in May 2026 the attack on the General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in the province.
These groups previously hindered, on June 4, the arrival of general certificate students to examination centers, after preventing them from leaving the province and obstructing their access to buses designated to transport them to Damascus and its countryside. They also continued, on August 27, their attempts to hinder the arrival of students holding basic and secondary education certificates in the northern countryside of the province to take the supplementary exam session.
