Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi stressed on Wednesday the importance of restraint, de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy, as well as the necessity of ensuring safe navigation and freedom of passage through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab.
This came during a joint press conference held by both sides at the headquarters of the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital Islamabad, as reported by the Pakistan Press International. Dar emphasized Pakistan's commitment to contributing constructively to diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region.
For his part, Al Busaidi highlighted the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and constructive engagement in addressing challenges, noting that mutual understanding and continuous diplomatic efforts are fundamental pillars for resolving disputes and preventing escalation. He praised the constructive role played by Pakistan in facilitating dialogue and supporting diplomatic initiatives, including negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Dar reiterated his country's condemnation of Houthi militia attacks on Saudi Arabia, describing attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure as unacceptable, and affirming Islamabad's full solidarity with the leadership and people of the Kingdom, and its firm commitment to its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security, in accordance with the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari had yesterday affirmed his country's commitment to regional peace and defense cooperation under the framework of the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense.
Last month on the 24th, a coalition comprising 80 countries at the United Nations called for the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, condemning Iranian and Houthi militia attacks in the region and their disruption of international trade and energy security.
