Palestine Condemns Colombia's Opening of Embassy in Occupied Jerusalem
Palestinian Foreign Ministry denounces Colombia's embassy opening as an attack on Palestinian national rights.

The State of Palestine condemned on Wednesday the opening of Colombia's embassy to the Israeli occupation in occupied Jerusalem, considering this move a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, and an attack on the Palestinian people and their just and legitimate national rights.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in a statement that this opening undermines the international consensus on the legal status of the holy city, and encourages the occupation authorities to continue their settlement policies and attempts to impose illegal facts on the ground, stressing the invalidity of any measures aimed at changing the historical and legal status of Jerusalem.

Demands for Reversal and Compliance

The ministry called on the Colombian government to comply with international law and respect relevant UN resolutions, and to reverse this step to preserve the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on ending the long-term Israeli occupation and realizing the independence of the State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.

International Responsibilities

It pointed out the importance of sister and friendly countries, as well as regional and international organizations, fulfilling their responsibilities in this regard, and working to protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, in accordance with resolutions of international legitimacy and provisions of international law.

Regional Context

Colombia opened its embassy in occupied Jerusalem on Wednesday, becoming the tenth country to take this step, after the new Colombian President Abilardo de la Esperia canceled the rupture with Israel adopted by his predecessor Gustavo Petro in May 2024 due to its violations in Gaza.

Palestine condemned in September last year the opening of an embassy by the Republic of Nauru to the Israeli occupation authorities in occupied Jerusalem, considering this step an attack on the Palestinian people and their just and legitimate rights, and a consolidation of the occupation and its illegal policies.
