Talks between Al-Zaidi and Shahin in Baghdad to strengthen efforts to end the Israeli occupation and halt settlement activities.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi held talks with Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faresin Shahin on developments in the Palestinian arena and ways to intensify Arab and international efforts to end the Israeli occupation and halt settlement in occupied Palestinian territories.

During the meeting, Shahin expressed her gratitude and appreciation for Iraq’s supportive positions regarding the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

For his part, the Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized that security and stability in the region and the Middle East cannot be achieved without reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, which guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, ends the occupation, and secures their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates noted that the meeting took place in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Shahin added her call to expedite addressing issues related to the situation of Palestinian refugees in Iraq, safeguarding their rights, and providing means for a decent livelihood, while preserving their established right to return to their homeland, Palestine.

The meeting comes within the framework of Palestinian and Arab diplomatic efforts aimed at enhancing coordination and consultation regarding developments in the Palestinian issue, and mobilizing support for positions calling for the end of the Israeli occupation and the halt of settlement activities.
