Paris demands Israel prosecute attackers of French politician in West Bank
French Foreign Minister calls on Israel to prosecute settlers who attacked Bernard Bodeu and European diplomats in the West Bank.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called on Tel Aviv authorities to arrest Israelis who attacked French politician Bernard Bodeu in the occupied West Bank and bring them to justice.

Attack on the diplomatic convoy

This came in a post on the American platform "X" on Saturday evening, in which he commented on the attack targeting a convoy carrying members of European diplomatic missions in the occupied West Bank. He added that Bodeu, mayor of the Oulnua Emri area, was subjected to a violent assault by extremist Israeli settlers who seize Palestinian land.

French solidarity and halt to violence

Barrot affirmed his country's solidarity with Bodeu, calling on Israeli authorities to arrest those responsible for these "horrific acts" and bring them to justice. The French minister stressed that Israel must work to stop acts of violence and ensure the safety of civilians.

Details of repeated assaults

A group of masked Israeli settlers attacked vehicles carrying French, Belgian, and Polish diplomats on Saturday, who were heading to participate in the olive harvest season in the town of Tuffah in the occupied West Bank. Israeli media reported that the attackers intercepted the vehicles carrying the diplomats, while video clips circulating on social media showed the shattering of a window in a vehicle carrying a Belgian diplomat.

French politician Bodeu was also beaten during the attack. The town of Tuffah is located northeast of Ramallah Governorate and is known as the only residential settlement in the area where Palestinian Christians form the majority of its population. Israeli settlers repeatedly target Palestinians participating in the olive harvest season and journalists present in the occupied West Bank.

On October 16, Israeli settlers beat Heidi Levine, a photographer for the American "Washington Post" newspaper, injuring her while she was covering the olive harvest season in the village of Abu Falah in the West Bank. Israeli settlers' attacks on Palestinians and their lands are escalating during the olive harvest season, which began in early October and constitutes a primary source of livelihood for thousands of Palestinian families.

According to the Palestinian Committee Against the Wall and Settlement, more than 45,000 trees were cut or damaged in the West Bank during the first half of 2026, including more than 26,000 olive trees.
