Paving of Darakoush-Salqin road begins in Idlib countryside after two decades
Sibco branch in Idlib starts paving Darakoush-Salqin road after over 20 years to improve traffic safety.

Technical workshops at the Idlib branch of the General Establishment for Construction and Building (Sibco) began, on Wednesday, paving the Darakoush-Salqin road in western Idlib countryside, after more than 20 years since the last maintenance work on it. The project aims to improve traffic safety and facilitate the movement of residents and vehicles on a road connecting the Harim area to Jisr al-Shughour, leading to the Syrian coast.

Engineer Jihad Hajj Yousef from the Idlib branch explained to SANA that the works involve removing the old asphalt concrete layer and laying a new layer with a thickness of 6 centimeters. He noted that the road is planned to be improved after the paving is completed, which will contribute to enhancing its condition and facilitating traffic movement between the areas it serves.

Material Specifications and Challenges

Hajj Yousef added that the asphalt concrete used meets good specifications and was supplied from the Haseya area in Homs Governorate, according to the required conditions set by the Ministry of Transport and the relevant establishment. He highlighted the importance of the road connecting Harim to Jisr al-Shughour, leading to the Syrian coast via the international M4 highway.

For his part, Mohammed Dib, assistant engineer at the Idlib branch, clarified that the workshops are carrying out paving works on the main road between Harim and Jisr al-Shughour, including operations such as spreading, buckling, and adjusting asphalt thicknesses. He pointed out that execution faces difficulties due to the continued traffic flow at the work site, the long distance for transporting materials, and high ambient and asphalt temperatures.

Residents' Demands

Mohammed Rida Az al-Din, a resident of Darakoush town, explained that residents suffered from the deterioration of the road's condition and the spread of potholes and ruts that hindered the movement of pedestrians and cars. He praised the efforts of the workshops working day and night to complete the works.

For his part, Abdul Muhsin Imran from the town noted that potholes caused significant difficulties for cars, especially during winter and rainfall, and also hindered students' access to their schools. He called for the installation of speed bumps to reduce speed, especially with motorcycles passing at high speeds, in addition to placing traffic signs and defining road lanes.

The Darakoush-Salqin road is considered one of the vital roads in western Idlib countryside, serving the movement of residents and the transport of goods, and connecting several areas of the governorate to the international M4 highway leading to the Syrian coast. The rehabilitation works aim to improve traffic flow, enhance traffic safety, and support economic and service activities in the area.
