Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski called on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on Tuesday to prepare for a decisive response in the event that potential hybrid Russian attacks on its territory result in casualties. In an interview with the "Financial Times," Sikorski warned of increasing chances of human losses due to Moscow's escalation of operations, stressing that a cross-border attack resulting in casualties would warrant serious discussion within the Alliance.

In the same context, Sikorski urged the Alliance to establish clear rules and responses to handle Russian movements, especially if attacks shift from targeting property to operations that take lives. He pointed out the absence of a pre-agreed definition for the threshold that warrants a response, noting that Poland and Estonia relied on Article 4 of the Alliance charter, which allows for consultations following airspace violations, but this step may not be sufficient in the event of fatalities.

For his part, the Polish Foreign Minister called on European allies to strengthen measures against Moscow, proposing the closure of Russian consulates and imposing restrictions on the freedom of movement of diplomats and reducing their numbers. Sikorski had previously stated that the Alliance is capable of defeating Russia quickly in the event of direct military confrontation, noting that the Alliance possesses significant air superiority with approximately 2,500 military aircraft, while Russia has repeatedly denied having any military plans or intentions to attack Alliance countries.
