The Polish Ministry of Defense announced it is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine, including military equipment that the Polish Armed Forces are about to retire, emphasizing that the volume of support will be determined according to Poland's security requirements and the resources available to its armed forces.
The Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita reported on Thursday that Dariusz Łukowski, director of the Defense Strategy and Planning Department at the Ministry of Defense, stated that Poland will transfer two MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in the near future, as part of an aid package valued at approximately 50 million euros.
The newspaper clarified that one of the aircraft has reached the end of its operational life and is likely to be used for spare parts, while the second aircraft remains airworthy. The package includes 155mm and 152mm artillery ammunition, 20x102mm ammunition for F-16 fighter jet cannons, as well as missiles for short-range portable air defense systems of the "Piorun" type.
The Polish Ministry of Defense confirmed it would not disclose the full details of the package, citing the secrecy of the information, while the newspaper noted that Poland had previously transferred 14 MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine during 2022 and 2023. In this context, the newspaper reported that Warsaw intends to supply Ukraine with five additional PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, as part of an international initiative led by the United States in cooperation with NATO.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced last September that his country is preparing a large military aid package for Ukraine, affirming continued support amidst Russian attacks. It is worth noting that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on September 19 that his country joined an alliance comprising Ukraine and other European countries to develop joint defensive capabilities to counter ballistic missiles.
