Tied Seats
An Israeli poll, on Friday, showed a tie between the camps of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the opposition, without reaching the majority needed to form a government, while 55 percent of those polled supported forming a unity government if the upcoming general elections do not yield a decisive result.
A poll published by "Maariv" newspaper, 11 days before the elections scheduled for October 27, stated that if elections were held today, both Netanyahu's camp and the Jewish opposition would each win 51 seats out of 120 in the Knesset.
Seat Distribution
According to the results, Arab MPs will win 14 seats, while the "Reserve" party will win 4 seats, without specifying which camp it will support. Forming a government requires the confidence of at least 61 MPs, otherwise Israel will return to the polls.
Both opposition parties and Netanyahu's breakaway party refuse to form a coalition with Arabs to form a government. Netanyahu's camp is distributed among "Likud" with 18 seats, "Jewish Power" with 8, "Yahadut HaTorah" with 8, "Shas" with 7, "Religious Zionism" with 6, and "Your Nation Your People" with 4.
Voter Preferences
As for the Jewish opposition camp, its seats are distributed among "Yesh Atid" with 21, "Meretz" with 13, "The Democrats" with 9, and "Israel Beiteinu" with 8. Regarding Arab MPs, the Joint List will win 8 seats, and the Unified Arab List will win 6.
On the level of the preferred personality for the premiership, the poll showed that "Yesh Atid" leader Eizenkot leads Netanyahu with 48 percent support, compared to 41 percent for the latter. It appeared that a majority of Israelis, about 55 percent, prefer forming a national unity government over holding new elections, in case the elections do not yield a decisive result.
