Port of Latakia receives six modern cranes to enhance container efficiency
Arrival of six fifth-generation bridge cranes at LICT terminal with CMA CGM to boost operational capacity and reduce vessel turnaround time.

Six modern fifth-generation bridge cranes for the Latakia International Container Terminal (LICT), in cooperation with the CMA CGM Group, arrived at the Port of Latakia today, Thursday, as part of a project to develop terminal equipment, enhance operational capacity, and accelerate container handling.

Latakia Port Director Abdul Hamid Al-Wahab confirmed that the arrival of the six cranes enhances the port’s readiness in the general cargo and container sectors, supports improved handling efficiency, reduces vessel stay time, and provides faster and more reliable services.

For his part, LICT Director Faisal Huwailo explained that the six cranes are of the hybrid (E-RTG) type and fall within the first phase of the development project, noting that their completion will take place within the next two months in parallel with the start of the second phase.

Huwailo pointed out that the new cranes allow vertical stacking of containers and efficient use of available space, noting that the port handled approximately 4 million tons of cargo in recent months of 2026.

He added that introducing the modern cranes will boost terminal productivity and reduce congestion, enabling the reception of large numbers of vessels and faster container handling, while the hybrid cranes align with the Group’s efforts to reduce emissions and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
