President Ahmed al-Sharaa received Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his accompanying delegation at the People's Palace in Damascus on Monday, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani.

 During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop cooperation in various fields, in addition to discussing the latest developments in the regional and international situations, and enhancing the level of coordination and consultation between the two brotherly countries on common challenges.

 

Al Shaibani, Hussain discuss developing joint cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani received an Iraqi delegation headed by his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein at the Tishreen Palace in Damascus on Monday.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and develop joint cooperation in various fields to serve the mutual interests of the two brotherly peoples, and stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation in order to contribute to enhancing security and stability in the region.

 

  The Iraqi Foreign Minister commented on the visit in a post on the "X" platform, saying that "Iraq believes that dialogue and cooperation among the countries of the region are the basis for consolidating regional security, enhancing stability and serving common interests."

 

Al-Sharaa congratulates his Iraqi counterpart

On April 29, President Al-Sharaa held a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Iraq, Nizar Amidi, during which he congratulated him on his assumption of his duties and wished him success in fulfilling his responsibilities.

During the call, President Al-Shara stressed the importance of the brotherly relations between Syria and Iraq, and the keenness of the Syrian Arab Republic to strengthen and develop them in various fields, in order to serve the interests of the two brotherly countries.

The two sides also discussed ways to expand the horizons of joint cooperation, and enhance coordination and consultation on issues of common interest, in a way that contributes to supporting security and stability in the region.

On June 10, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi sent a letter to President Al-Sharia, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and expanding the areas of security and economic coordination.

The recent period witnessed the gradual reopening of a number of major land crossings between Iraq and Syria, following the fall of the Assad regime and political changes witnessed in Syria, paving the way for a new phase of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
