Talal Qal'ah Ji, President of the Regional Office of the Arab Exporters and Importers Union in Syria, confirmed that Decree No. 188 of 2026, which amends certain provisions of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, represents a promising economic step and a positive initiative that will alleviate costs and burdens on both citizens and productive and commercial sectors.

For his part, Qal'ah Ji clarified that the decree reflects a flexible and advanced government response to business sector proposals, where fees were reviewed and reduced by tangible percentages to support alternative energy, food security, and healthcare sectors. He emphasized that this trend is not merely a procedural amendment, but a highly positive decision with strategic dimensions to support the local market and regulate trade movements.

He pointed out that we all know that the state and government's efforts are primarily focused on addressing rising prices and alleviating living and production pressures. In light of the current global wave of inflation, rising international shipping costs, and increased global disruption and energy requirements, these comprehensive customs amendments, which affected alternative energy equipment, medical supplies, food and basic goods, and industrial raw materials, represent a practical step to reduce costs and directly alleviate financial burdens.

Qal'ah Ji added his optimism about the future of the Syrian economy, saying: "Syria is approaching a promising stage of investments and economic openness, and we are fully confident that the anticipated economic leap will achieve its goals through cooperation and joint work between the public and private sectors, to supply markets with fair prices and available products, serving the interest of the citizen and the country."

Earlier, President Ahmed al-Sharaa issued Decree No. (188) of 2026 yesterday, Monday, amending certain provisions of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule approved by Decree No. (110) of 2026, regarding classification, coding, fee rates, and implementation conditions.
