The General Company for Water and Wastewater in Deir Ezzor Governorate, with support from the governorate, launched a project to lay drinking water lines to several areas and residential settlements, with a total length of approximately 19 kilometers and a cost of nearly $320,000 for the first phase, benefiting around 80,000 residents.
The General Manager of the company, Ahmed Al-Mousa, clarified in media statements today, Thursday, that the project includes the areas of Al-Mayadeen, Ad-Dawr, Al-Husayniyah, Hatla, Al-Jafra, Al-Masrab, Al-Hisn, Al-Tabni, Khasham, and Al-Salihiyah, in addition to three sites in the Hajin area. He pointed out that the project implementation period is about two months, noting that excavation works were fully completed in the Deir Ezzor and Al-Masrab projects, while excavation in other areas is expected to be completed next week.
He added that the project relies on supplying pipes directly from the factory without intermediaries, aiming to reduce expenses and direct resources to implementing works, highlighting an agreement with some humanitarian organizations for the Water Authority to undertake implementation and supply tasks in joint projects. He also clarified that the governorate is working on implementing a number of water station rehabilitation projects, including the Tawtaha, Al-Hari, Murat, and Baggouz stations, among others, from which around 400,000 residents are expected to benefit.
Al-Mousa explained that encroachments on main networks are among the most prominent problems hindering water access for all beneficiaries, calling on residents to avoid violations of the networks to ensure fair water distribution. Regarding water quality, he pointed out that the high turbidity rate is linked to several factors, including the passage of Euphrates River water through multiple areas and stations, explaining that water treatment requires the use of chemicals according to approved treatment procedures.
In a related context, Al-Mousa revealed reaching an agreement to complete the study of establishing a wastewater treatment plant in the Muhakan area, expected to serve around 5,000 residents, while working on developing the project in cooperation with the ministry and the relevant organization to raise the number of targeted beneficiaries to around 12,000 residents.
