Qatar rejects Israeli occupation of Golan and supports Palestinian rights and its stance on Syria at the UN.

Qatar renewed its call on Saturday for ending the Israeli occupation and withdrawing from the occupied Syrian Golan to the June 4, 1967 lines, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions. The Qatar News Agency (QNA) confirmed that Mohammed Hassan Al-Amadi, Third Secretary of Qatar鈥檚 Permanent Mission to the UN, emphasized in a statement delivered at the meetings of the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly during its eighty-first session in New York, the right of Syrians in the occupied Syrian Golan to their natural resources. Al-Amadi also pointed out Qatar鈥檚 rejection of measures aimed at changing the legal and demographic status of the area, stressing that the continued exploitation of natural resources in the Golan and occupied Palestinian territories constitutes an obstacle to achieving sustainable development and realizing economic and social rights.

In the same context, Qatar reaffirmed on Friday its support for Syria鈥檚 sovereignty and independence, and its condemnation of continuous Israeli aggression and violations on Syrian territory. It also stressed the importance of continuing support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), due to its role in providing humanitarian, educational, health, and developmental services to Palestinians.

For his part, Qatar鈥檚 Permanent Representative to the UN, Aliya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, confirmed in a statement on Friday during an open debate of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Qatar鈥檚 firm rejection of any measures aimed at expelling or forcibly displacing the Palestinian people from their homeland.
