Qatar confirmed its continuation of diplomatic efforts to bring the positions of the United States and Iran closer, noting the continued engagement of both parties in the negotiation track and the review of proposed proposals despite the escalation witnessed in the region. Doha warned of the repercussions of any new escalation, emphasizing that mediators continue to exchange proposals continuously within the framework of mediation efforts.
Regional coordination to prevent escalation
The official spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Al-Ansari, clarified during the ministry's weekly press briefing on Tuesday that communications remain ongoing between the parties. He pointed out that the continuation of negotiations and the parties' commitment to studying the proposals represent a "ray of hope" for reaching an agreement, affirming that the mediator cannot lose hope, despite the inability to speak currently about a specific development in the communication track.
Rejection of threats to maritime navigation
Al-Ansari stressed that Qatari-Pakistani mediation is a priority for Doha and is carried out in coordination with regional partners, especially the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Regarding the targeting of the Qatari gas tanker "Al-Mayda", Al-Ansari renewed his country's condemnation of this targeting, emphasizing that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Arabian Gulf is a non-negotiable matter, and that Qatar rejects any threat to ships in Gulf waters.
Support for the legitimate Yemeni government
He clarified that military attacks and targeting ships constitute a threat to the entire region and a danger to its peoples, in addition to their negative impact on ongoing negotiations. He also affirmed Qatar's supportive position towards the legitimate Yemeni government and the Yemeni people, emphasizing his country's condemnation of the attacks suffered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from the Houthi militia, and its continued support for the Kingdom and the implementation of agreements reached under the umbrella of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
