Qatar Emir Announces Fruitful Talks with Macron on Partnership
Qatar's Emir announces fruitful talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Doha to enhance strategic partnership.

Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani announced on Wednesday that he held fruitful talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, focusing on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as exchanging views on key regional and international issues. This came in a tweet posted by the Emir on the American platform "X," following his meeting with Macron in the capital Doha on Tuesday.

Details of the Meeting and Cooperation

According to a statement from the Diwan Amiri, the two sides discussed at Lusail Palace ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership, particularly in economic, investment, security, and defense fields. Macron, according to the same statement, affirmed his country's commitment to developing cooperative relations with Qatar, praising the progress achieved in relations and the shared desire to consolidate security and stability.

Macron's Gulf Tour

The French President arrived in Doha coming from Bahrain, as part of a Gulf tour that also included the UAE and Kuwait, and ends in Qatar on Wednesday. Paris had previously announced that this tour is part of Macron's moves with regional leaders to restore stability and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and to enhance strategic and economic partnerships.

Regional Context

These talks come amid escalating tensions in the region, where Israel and the United States started a war against Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with attacks on Israel and US military installations in Arab countries, including Qatar. Washington and Tehran also signed a memorandum of understanding in June, but negotiations later collapsed due to disagreements over guarantees for freedom and security of navigation in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
