Qatar Navigation announces LNG carrier attacked in the Gulf
Qatar Navigation confirms its LNG carrier was attacked in the Gulf waters without crew injuries.

Qatar Navigation announced on Sunday that one of its ships carrying liquefied natural gas was attacked while sailing in the waters of the Arabian Gulf on Friday evening, with no injuries among its crew members.

The Qatar News Agency quoted the company as saying that the LNG carrier "Al-Mayda" was attacked on the evening of October 30 last year, without causing any injuries to the crew or environmental damage.

The company clarified in a statement published by the Qatar Stock Exchange that the ship is in a safe condition and remains operational, while the consequences of the incident are being assessed. It confirmed continued coordination with the ship's crew and relevant maritime security authorities in the region to ensure the safety of those on board and to monitor developments in the situation.

The company did not disclose the nature of the objects used in the attack or the responsible party, nor did it specify the exact location of the incident in the Gulf. Qatar Navigation is a public joint-stock company owned by both the public and private sectors, playing a key role in transporting liquefied natural gas within Qatar's energy supply chain.

The incident comes amid ongoing security risks facing commercial navigation in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, with commercial ships, oil tankers, and gas carriers facing repeated attacks and security incidents in recent months. October last year saw a series of attacks on commercial tankers in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman, some of which caused fires and damage to ships.

Concerns over navigation security in the region are escalating amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, particularly regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which represents a strategic passage for global oil and gas exports. The United States and Israel had previously started a war against Iran on February 28 last year, before reaching a ceasefire in April, and confrontations between Washington and Tehran resumed in July.
