The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the issuance of a joint statement with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, following the conclusion of the summit of the Swiss Lake Lucerne and the first round of talks that brought together the United States and Iran under the auspices of Qatar and Pakistan.
The statement said that the first round of talks was dominated by a positive atmosphere, as tangible progress was made in the establishment of a clear mechanism for the upcoming technical talks.
60-Day Roadmap and Political Supervision Mechanisms
According to the joint statement, the participating parties agreed on a structural action plan that included a high-level committee that would assume the task of political oversight of the entire mediation process , with the chief negotiator committing periodic reports to the committee, in addition to leading specialized working groups on the nuclear file and the sanctions imposed, in addition to establishing a follow-up and conflict resolution working group to ensure the effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding, with a focus on monitoring mechanisms and sanctions.
According to the statement, the high-level committee agreed on a specific roadmap to reach a final comprehensive agreement within 60 days.
The statement added that the talks carried significant procedural steps, represented in the establishment of a direct line of communication between the concerned parties to avoid any misunderstandings and to ensure the safe passage of ships and tankers through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
With regard to the hot regional file, it was agreed to establish a dedicated working group to avoid escalation, which includes the two parties (the United States and Iran) in addition to the Lebanese Republic and facilitated by mediators, according to the statement, which stressed that this group aims mainly to ensure full compliance with the cessation of military operations in Lebanon as stipulated in the memorandum of understanding.
Meetings and technical talks are scheduled to continue throughout the remainder of this week in the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock to discuss details and related issues, amid Qatari-Pakistani assurances to continue to exert all efforts to ensure the continuation of the train of negotiations until the final agreement.
Tehran: Conflicting reports on the negotiation track
On the other hand, the Iranian arena witnessed a discrepancy in the transfer of the talks behind the scenes, as the official Iranian News Agency confirmed the presence of the Iranian negotiating delegation in the resort of "Bürgenstock" and the continuation of consultations, noting that the mediators are making relentless efforts to return the negotiations to their previous track.
On the other hand, Iran's Tasnim news agency quoted a source familiar with the situation as saying that the Iranian delegation refused to return directly to the negotiating table, pointing out at the same time that the exchange of messages between the parties is still ongoing and active through Qatari and Pakistani mediators.
