Qatar has reiterated its support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and its condemnation of continuous Israeli attacks and violations on Syrian territory. The Qatar News Agency (QNA) quoted Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Aliya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, in a statement before the open debate meeting of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East in New York: "Qatar reaffirms its full support for the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic."
The Qatari representative added her welcome to the US decision to approve the resolution removing Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and to the International Atomic Energy Agency's decision to close the file on non-compliance regarding Syria. She also expressed Qatar's strong condemnation of the continuous violations committed by the Israeli occupation, calling on the international community to take urgent action to compel Israel to comply with international legal resolutions, particularly the Disengagement Agreement of 1974.
Steadfast support for Lebanon and the rights of the Palestinian people
Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Qatari representative expressed her country's firm rejection of any measures aimed at expelling or forcibly displacing the Palestinian people, and its steadfast support for the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. She also reiterated Qatar's firm position regarding the Lebanese Republic and its sovereignty over its entire territory, rejecting Israeli statements regarding the annexation of areas in southern Lebanon, and calling for the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701.
Freedom of navigation and regional security
The representative emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz must not be used as a pressure card, stressing that freedom of navigation in this vital waterway is a firm principle that allows no compromise. She also condemned Iranian attacks on Qatar and other countries, as well as Houthi militia attacks on King Khalid Airport in Saudi Arabia, affirming that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of Qatar's security and the collective security system of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
