QatarEnergy signs two agreements to purchase 4 million tons of US gas annually
QatarEnergy signs long-term contracts with Chenier for LNG supply from Louisiana and Texas starting in 2031.

QatarEnergy signed two long-term agreements with the American company Chenier to purchase up to 4 million tons of liquefied natural gas annually, with deliveries starting in 2031 and continuing until 2054.

QatarEnergy clarified in a statement on Thursday that the two agreements include the purchase of gas from Chenier’s facilities in Sabine Pass, Louisiana, and Corpus Christi, Texas, on the US Gulf Coast, noting that delivery will be under the FOB (Free On Board) term.

Official signing and expansion strategy

The agreements were signed by the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Chairman and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, and the Chairman and CEO of Chenier, Jack Fusco, in a move reflecting strategic cooperation between the two parties.

QatarEnergy emphasized that the two agreements reflect its confidence in the long-term role of liquefied natural gas in the global energy mix, and its commitment to developing a diverse, flexible, and competitive supply portfolio, amid damage sustained by some of its production facilities due to Iranian attacks.

Enhancing the global portfolio

For his part, Al-Kaabi said the two agreements represent an important milestone in QatarEnergy’s strategy, contributing to expanding and diversifying its global liquefied natural gas portfolio and enhancing its ability to meet market demands.

He added that the additional quantities will complement the company’s current supplies, support the diversification of supply sources and trade, and its ability to meet the needs of its customers worldwide, thereby strengthening its position in the global market.

These agreements come as QatarEnergy seeks to secure additional supplies of liquefied natural gas through long-term contracts. Reuters reported last September that the company was holding talks with American producers to secure additional gas quantities, helping it fulfill its commitments to customers in the coming years.
