Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s continued support for Lebanon and its solidarity with the Lebanese people, stressing Doha’s commitment to backing Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Friday that Al Thani’s remarks came during a joint press conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in Beirut, following talks that focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation, particularly in the sectors of energy, investment, development, economy, and electricity.
For his part, Salam announced that the Qatari and Lebanese governments are close to reaching a joint project to rehabilitate, develop, and modernize Lebanon’s electricity production infrastructure, under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, without imposing prior investment burdens on the Lebanese treasury.
In the energy sector, Al Thani revealed an agreement between QatarEnergy and TotalEnergies for the joint development of a solar power plant in Lebanon, explaining that the project represents an initial step within a broader framework of energy cooperation, expressing optimism that one of the projects under discussion for years will soon move to the implementation phase.
During the press conference, the Qatari minister renewed his country’s support for the Lebanese Army, emphasizing its fundamental role in preserving the country’s security, unity, and stability. He also condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, stressing the need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, Israel’s withdrawal from all occupied areas, a halt to attacks, and adherence to existing understandings.
Earlier on Friday, the Qatari minister held talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on bilateral relations and ways to implement joint projects that contribute to enhancing the security, stability, and prosperity of the region.
