The foreign ministers of the Quartet, comprising Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan, condemned Israeli settlement activities and settler attacks during their meeting in Istanbul on Friday, affirming their support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
Support for Palestinian Rights
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the ministers met to discuss regional issues of common interest, based on their commitment to contributing to diplomatic efforts and enhancing peace and stability in the region. The ministers affirmed that the Israeli occupation represents the primary source of instability, calling for the immediate implementation of the two-state solution in accordance with UN resolutions.
Condemnation of Settlements and Violence
The ministers reiterated their support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign State of Palestine on the June 4, 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital. They called for an immediate halt to Israeli violence and attempts to alter the legal and historical status of Jerusalem, expressing their condemnation of all settlement activities in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Houthi Escalation and Navigation Rights
The ministers strongly condemned the unacceptable escalation by the Houthi militia, which has exacerbated humanitarian suffering and continued its attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab strait. The ministers also emphasized the urgent need to address tensions in the Middle East through dialogue, highlighting the importance of freedom of navigation and the protection of navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz, and rejecting any measures that hinder safe passage.
