Rajji: Monopoly of arms a national choice to end dual power in Lebanon
Lebanese Foreign Minister confirms that restricting arms to the state is a national choice to end military and security power duality.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji affirmed on Sunday that Lebanon has embarked on a political and institutional path aimed at restoring state authority and rebuilding its full sovereignty. He pointed out that the decision to restrict arms to the state represents a national choice to end the duality of military and security power in the country.

The Lebanese National News Agency quoted Rajji as saying, in a speech on the sidelines of his participation in the "Manama Dialogue" in Bahrain, that the Lebanese government "has taken historic decisions stipulating the restriction of arms to the state and its legitimate institutions, and banning the military and security activities of Hezbollah." He added that these decisions are not merely political stances or declarations of intent, but an expression of a clear national choice to end the duality of military and security power.

For his part, the Lebanese Foreign Minister pointed out that the future of our region must not remain hostage to the ambitions of armed militias, or the calculations of external powers, or settlements made at the expense of our countries' sovereignty and our peoples' interests. He stressed his country's firm solidarity with all Gulf Arab states in the face of Iranian aggression and that carried out by armed groups linked to Iran, clarifying that Lebanon is more aware than anyone else of the dangers of these policies and their repercussions.

Details of the Manama Dialogue Conference

Bahrain hosted the "Manama Dialogue 2026" conference in its 22nd edition, organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, from October 30 to November 1. The conference saw the participation of delegations from more than 50 countries, more than 40 high-level figures including ministers and senior military leaders, and representatives from more than 10 international organizations.

Regional Context

Minister Rajji's statements come amid the conference's focus on security and political issues in the region, where he emphasized the necessity for sovereign and cohesive states to shape the future of their region, aware of their interests, united with each other, and capable of bearing responsibility for their security and stability and determining their own destiny.
