The workshops of the Public Works Department in the Raqqa Municipality and Civil Defense teams were put on high alert Wednesday evening to address rainwater accumulation in the city and its streets, resulting from heavy rains that the governorate experienced.
The Director of the Public Works Department, Mahmoud Hammam, explained that the heavy rainfall exceeded the capacity of some drains, leading to water overflow in several locations. He noted that the department mobilized its crews and prepared pressure and suction tankers to open culverts, remove blockages, and accelerate water drainage within the network.
For his part, the Head of the Government Communications Department at the Emergency Directorate, Saad Abd al-Salam, highlighted the enhanced readiness of Civil Defense teams to respond to emergencies in affected areas. He clarified that teams are working to remove stranded vehicles and drain water from homes and vital facilities, in addition to responding to traffic accidents and slips related to weather conditions.
Abd al-Salam urged citizens to contact Civil Defense numbers for rescue, ambulance, and fire services at 0940496878 or via WhatsApp. The administration of the Tel Abyad area in the Raqqa countryside also warned citizens about the rainstorm and advised taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of themselves and their families.
