Raqqa National Hospital received medical devices and equipment from the Global Sight Foundation today, Thursday, which contributes to localizing treatment within the governorate and reducing the burden of patients traveling to other governorates.
The head of Raqqa National Hospital, Dr. Ahmed Al-Assaf, clarified that the equipment included a surgical microscope and a phacoemulsification device dedicated to cataract surgeries, in addition to consumables sufficient to perform approximately 400 surgical operations.
Al-Assaf noted that the department had stopped performing surgeries for about 14 years, explaining that the reopening represents an important step in restoring medical services. The department will begin receiving patients and performing surgeries starting next Sunday, with limited capacity in the first stage due to space constraints.
For his part, Muhammad Mujawar Muhammad Osman, representative of the Global Sight Foundation, stated that the foundation provided equipment to treat 400 patients or more to support medical staff. The Ministry of Health had launched a free campaign for cataract treatment at the National Hospital in Raqqa in collaboration with the foundation last July.
The Global Sight Foundation was established in 1989 as a non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization specializing in combating blindness and eye diseases, with the goal of reducing the spread of visual impairment and providing care for the most vulnerable groups in developing countries.
