The Raqqa branch of the General Establishment for Seed Multiplication announced on Tuesday the resumption of its work at the beginning of the current week after a halt lasting approximately 14 years, as part of intensive preparations for the upcoming agricultural season.
The branch manager, Abdul Rahman Al-Mousa, told SANA that the production plan for the upcoming agricultural season is estimated at around 7,500 tons of wheat seed, distributed between hard and soft varieties. The contracting plan includes approved hard wheat varieties (Duma 3, Sham 7, Buhouth 9) and soft wheat varieties (Duma 2, Duma 4, Buhouth 8, Sham 10).
Contracting Procedures and Inspections
Al-Mousa indicated that the door for farmers to submit requests was opened through official announcements in recent months, responding to farmers' desire to contract with the branch for seed cultivation for the new season. He noted that technical operations at the branch begin by transferring raw seeds from the branch's open-air warehouses to modern cleaning and sterilization centers, where they are treated with a substance called "Spiro" for sterilization to ensure pure and high-quality seeds.
Farmer Khalil Al-Sheikh from northern Raqqa countryside stated that the seeds provided today undergo precise inspections supervised by specialized committees and agricultural experts. This saves farmers the effort of traditional manual cleaning and ensures a bountiful harvest compared to old methods that involved impurities and reduced productivity.
Supporting the Agricultural Sector
The return of the General Establishment for Seed Multiplication branch in Raqqa comes within the framework of supporting the agricultural sector in the province, securing improved seeds that meet specifications, thereby contributing to improving productivity and crop quality and reducing production costs, coinciding with the launch of preparations for the new agricultural season.
