The General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Deir Ezzor, in cooperation with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), is working to enhance community awareness regarding the importance of rationalizing water consumption and curbing violations against networks, as part of efforts to preserve water resources and ensure their delivery to beneficiaries.
These efforts include raising awareness about the risks of using drinking water for irrigating crops, the importance of adhering to rational usage methods, and preventing waterborne diseases such as cholera and Hepatitis A. Hala Al-Hajj Taha, Director of International Relations and Cooperation at Deir Ezzor Water Company, explained that the "SPC" project aims to strengthen communication between the company and the community, and address issues related to consumption rationalization and network violations.
For his part, Khaled Al-Abdullah, a trainer in social and behavioral change at UNICEF, indicated that the training focuses on applying behavior change strategies and enhancing community participation in awareness activities, particularly concerning water conservation, disease prevention, and curbing network violations.
Engineer Qasim Al-Hasan, one of the trainees, clarified that the training covers mechanisms for rationalizing water consumption and limiting its use in irrigating crops, as well as introducing waterborne diseases and ways to prevent them. These efforts come as Deir Ezzor Governorate continues to implement projects to rehabilitate treatment plants and replace water and sanitation networks, in cooperation with international organizations, including UNICEF, in the cities of Deir Ezzor, Mayadin, and Al-Busayra.
