David Raya, goalkeeper of the first football team of Arsenal, expressed his happiness at the amazing reaction to the way the English league title holder regained his balance after a humiliating defeat before the international break, achieving three consecutive wins before facing German Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Gunners suffered a surprising 3-0 loss to Brighton in September, then spent several weeks pondering this setback while international players left to join their national teams. But since returning to London, they have won three matches in three games, and Nuno Mawdwick's late goal was enough to give them a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Raya told Arsenal's website: "We came back with great strength, especially after that difficult loss to Brighton and 19 days before we played another match." He added: "The way we responded, the way we played, and the way we came back was truly amazing."
He pointed out that Mawdwick's shot in the 80th minute was Arsenal's only attempt between the posts at City Ground, but the way they won showed again the team's continued ability to snatch results. He continued: "We showed maturity and great desire. We continued to do the right things, and the ball will find its way into the net."
Raya added: "We have experiences from the past two years where we drew 0-0 here against Forest, so I think we showed great character by continuing to seek the result, and in the end, with some crosses and some Bukeo Saka balls, the ball entered the net thanks to Nuno." He described the player as special and this goal as special for him because it gave them a win on difficult ground.
Arsenal will meet their host Bayern in Munich, in their first attempt to achieve their third win, and the second to regain balance after a surprising draw with Viking Norway.
