The first team of the Spanish football club Real Madrid succeeded in turning a two-goal deficit against the Italian club Roma into a 4-3 victory at the decisive moment, after trailing for a long period with a score of 1-3, at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, the capital, within the matches of the second round of the main stage of the Champions League competition.
This is not the first time Real has come back from a two-goal deficit in the Champions League to achieve victory in the same match, as it has repeated this more than once, most notably against the same team, Roma, within the group stage of the Champions League, in the 2004-2005 season.
Previous victories in the Champions League
Roma led the White team 2-0 in 2004, with goals from De Rossi and Cassano, before Real turned the result and his players scored 4 goals through a brace by Raul Gonzalez, and one goal each by Luis Figo and Roberto Carlos, at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium.
In the Round of 16 of the Champions League in the 2022-2023 season, Real trailed 0-2 at Anfield Stadium in England against Liverpool, when the duo Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah scored the home team's goals, for the Royals to return with a "remontada" by scoring 5 consecutive goals, as Karim Benzema scored two goals, Vinicius Junior scored two goals, in addition to a goal from defender Militao, to win Real 5-2.
In 2024, the German team Borussia Dortmund also led by two goals in Real Madrid's net, in the Champions League in the main stage, but the Royals returned to score 5 goals, thanks to a Vinicius Junior hat-trick, and a goal each by Rudiger and Vazquez, to win 5-2.
History of reverse setbacks
In the 1956 European final, the French team Stade Reims led by two goals in Real Madrid's net through Leblond and Templin, before the Spanish team scored 4 goals thanks to a brace by Hector Rial, and a goal each by Alfredo Di Stefano and Marquetos, while the French team scored a goal through Helgado, allowing Real to succeed in transforming from a 0-2 loss to a 4-3 victory.
