Record escalation in the "Russia-Ukraine" war: 251 clashes recorded in 24 hours
Moscow announces the downing of 323 Ukrainian drones, and Kyiv repels 44 Russian attacks

During the past 24 hours, the   Ukrainian and Russian  war fronts witnessed the  most violent military escalation of its kind, as the General Staff of Ukraine recorded a total of 251 direct combat clashes between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian forces, the majority of which were concentrated in the eastern and southern axes.

According to the Ukrainian report published by the Ukrainian News Agency , Russian forces carried out 4 missile strikes and 77 airstrikes, during which they launched 260 guided bombs, in addition to deploying 9741 suicide drones, and carrying out 3159 artillery and missile bombing attacks.

The "Pokrovsk" sector recorded the peak with the Ukrainians repelling 44 attacks, followed by the "Holypol" sector with 24 attacks and "Kostiantynivka" with 20 attacks, as Moscow confirmed that it is close to controlling it as a fulcrum within the "belt of fortresses" in Donetsk. In return, Ukrainian forces launched qualitative strikes targeting 20 concentration of personnel, two artillery systems, and 5 Russian command centers.

According to Ukrainian media, Russian overnight attacks on Kharkiv province killed a 56-year-old woman and wounded four others after "Molya" and Jeran-2 drones struck residential buildings in the city of Balaklia and the Industryalny region.

About 20 drones also targeted the Dnipropetrovsk region, affecting the towns of Nikopol and the communities of Pokrovsky, Marhanets and Pavlohrad, injuring two people and destroying administrative and residential facilities and a gas station.

Russian Defense: 323 Ukrainian drones destroyed

On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced, on Wednesday morning, that its air defense systems had a tumultuous night during which they managed to shoot down and destroy 323 Ukrainian drones over the territory of several Russian provinces.

The ministry noted in its morning statement that the most prominent of the drones that were shot down took place in Belgorod (which witnessed the death of one person and the injury of another), Moscow, Astrakhan, Bryansk, Voronezh, Crimea, and over the waters of the Black Sea and Azov.

In a related context, the Ukrainian authorities announced that a 58-year-old Egyptian chef was killed and others from the crew of the Panamanian-flagged cargo ship "Viktris" and includes members of Egyptian, Turkish and Indian nationalities, after it was hit directly by a Russian drone in the waters of the Black Sea, which led to the outbreak of a huge fire and completely put the ship out of service due to severe damage.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba noted that the same attack targeted two other cargo ships flying the flags of Belize and Palau without causing any casualties, reflecting Moscow's intention to paralyze Kyiv's vital navigation and trade.

Putin: The West is preparing for a war against us and Ukrainian attacks have doubled

Politically, President Vladimir Putin, in a speech to graduates of the Kremlin's military and security institutions, stressed that Ukraine is launching systematic attacks on civilian targets and infrastructures with the full support of the "collective West" and NATO.

Putin explained that the aim of the use of drones in large numbers is to "destabilize Russian society" and create uncertainty.

Putin noted that the pace of Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries has doubled since the beginning of 2026, causing long queues and high gasoline prices in several Russian regions, which Kyiv sees as a strategic way to drain the sources of funding for the Russian war machine.

The Russian president warned that NATO and the European Union are no longer satisfied with supporting Ukraine, but their rhetoric has become a public reference to readiness for a direct military confrontation with Moscow, justifying his country's allocation of about 40% of its budget to the defense, security and armaments sectors to respond quickly to any external threat.
