Rehabilitation of sewage networks in Al-Tarimesa and Kafr Hud villages in Hama countryside
Hama Water Company rehabilitates sewage networks in two villages under the 'Syria Without Camps' initiative to serve 10,000 residents.

The General Company for Drinking Water and Sewerage in Hama Governorate continues rehabilitation works on sewage networks in the villages of Al-Tarimesa and Kafr Hud in the countryside, as part of the 'Syria Without Camps' initiative, aiming to improve basic services and reduce risks of damage to old networks and mixing of sewage with drinking water.

The General Manager of the company, Engineer Abdul Sattar Al-Ali, stated in an interview with SANA on Sunday that the works include desilting and maintaining inspection chambers and storm drains, installing cast iron covers, clearing blockages, and replacing damaged lines. He noted that the targeted network lengths amount to 1,400 linear meters in Al-Tarimesa and 875 meters in Kafr Hud, benefiting approximately 10,000 residents.

Risks to Residents

Loui Soutl, head of the technical office in Al-Tarimesa municipality, pointed out that the damage to old sewage lines and their weak diameters led to the mixing of sewage with drinking water in several areas, prompting warnings to over 150 households not to use the main network water. Soutl explained that the works involve replacing 1,400 meters of sewage lines with diameters ranging between 30, 40, and 50 centimeters, depending on the targeted areas, with priority given to the Al-Mughar district.

He noted that the collapse of lines led to water seeping into the basements of residential buildings, posing a risk to the safety of structures and residents. He added that the works include clearing approximately 1,000 meters of the network using a pressure compressor, and desilting 200 gullies and 100 storm drains across the town. He indicated that these interventions help address 65 to 70 percent of the sewage problem in Al-Tarimesa, reducing risks for over 10,000 residents out of a total of approximately 20,000, while emphasizing the continued need for additional phases to address remaining issues.

For his part, Khalid Al-Ali, a resident of Al-Tarimesa, expressed hope that the works would help curb the spread of wastewater in streets and improve living conditions for residents. Last September, the Hama Governor launched the first package of projects under the 'Syria Without Camps' initiative, which included 84 service projects in 70 towns and villages in the countryside, covering education, water, sewerage, health, roads, and infrastructure sectors, aiming to improve basic services and create suitable conditions for the return of residents to their areas.
