The Orange Organization, in cooperation with the local council in the city of Zamalka in the Damascus countryside governorate, completed today, Wednesday, the works of removing and relocating rubble from several residential neighborhoods, roads, and the surroundings of schools, as part of the "Cash for Work" project. This project aims to improve the service and environmental reality, facilitate citizens' movement, and enhance early recovery efforts by preparing conditions for residents to return to the city.
Project Details and Targeted Sites
The project supervisor at the Zamalka municipality, Yasser Suleiman, clarified that the works, which started last Thursday, reached their final stage by completing the removal of rubble from the targeted sites. He pointed out that the works covered areas such as Al-Mazraa, the Ittihad parking lot, and the surroundings of the city's only secondary school, where the quantities of rubble and debris removed amounted to approximately 3,000 cubic meters.
Supporting Recovery and Improving the General Environment
On his part, the project manager at the Orange Organization, Madhat Kanaan Hamidi, explained that the implementation was supported and funded by the organization "WHH - Welthungerhilfe Middle East" in coordination with the local council. He noted that removing rubble contributes to improving the general environment and facilitating access to vital facilities, while encouraging displaced persons to return to their city. He added that this project is part of a series of projects implemented by the organization in several governorates.
International Funding and Community Support
These works come under the "Community-Led Opportunities for Resilience and Empowerment" project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development "BMZ" in partnership with the organization "Welthungerhilfe Middle East - WHH". This international support aims to enhance the capacity of local communities to face challenges and support early recovery efforts in affected areas.
