The Water Police at the General Company for Drinking Water and Sewerage in Quneitra Governorate, today Thursday, in cooperation with Internal Security Forces, conducted a field patrol in the villages of Ein Farikha and Abu Ghara in the southern countryside, to remove encroachments and violations on water pumping lines from wells, and to ensure the continuous supply of water to beneficiaries.
The director of the General Company for Drinking Water and Sewerage, Salem Al-Bukhait, told SANA that the patrol aimed to monitor cases of illegal water extraction and encroachments on public networks, which led to weak water pressure and deprived a wide segment of citizens of their fair share, due to the illegal diversion of water for irrigating crops and watering livestock.
Al-Bukhait pointed out that the company has taken a series of immediate measures to prevent the recurrence of these encroachments and ensure fair distribution, including organizing legal records, imposing financial fines, disconnecting random extraction lines, and rehabilitating damaged sections of the network, with the aim of improving the efficiency of delivering water to various neighborhoods in the required quantities.
He emphasized the continuation and intensification of field patrols in various areas of the governorate and its countryside, stressing zero tolerance for encroachments affecting water security, and calling on citizens to cooperate and report any violations, which contributes to ensuring stable water supply.
The company had previously issued directives prohibiting the use of network water for irrigating crops, under the threat of liability and legal prosecution.
These measures come within the framework of efforts by concerned authorities to preserve water resources and ensure their use in accordance with approved standards. The Water Resources Directorate in Quneitra Governorate had started pumping water into the Wadi Al-Alan channel last month on the 27th, to ensure irrigation of surrounding agricultural areas and protect summer crops from drought.
