The Yemeni Network for Human Rights and Freedoms documented that the Houthi militia committed 109 crimes and violations in Taiz Governorate over the past 48 hours, according to a report issued on Wednesday. The violations included the firing of 147 indiscriminate projectiles, mostly targeting residential neighborhoods, resulting in the deaths of 8 people, including 3 women and 3 children, and injuring 26 others, including 7 women and 4 children.
For its part, Saba News Agency quoted the Network as saying that the violations ranged from killing and injury by shelling and sniping, to abduction and enforced disappearance, and home raids. The Network also documented the abduction of 24 people and their transfer to unknown locations, the raiding of approximately 23 homes, and the partial or total damage to 17 homes due to shelling, in addition to the targeting of an ambulance with an artillery shell in the Sabr area.
It pointed out that the militias attacked several mosques in the governorate and converted them into their positions. It also documented the explosion of a ferry on the Hajjah Al-Abd road and the cutting of the main road connecting Taiz to Lahj Governorate and on to Aden. It clarified that the shelling included approximately 147 projectiles, including mortar shells, Katyusha rockets, artillery shells, and drones, along with two ballistic missiles that targeted the Sina neighborhood in central Taiz.
The Network called on the United Nations and the international community to clearly condemn these violations and take urgent measures to stop them and protect civilians, lift the siege, and open roads. It also called for declaring Taiz a disaster-stricken city and expanding the humanitarian response to match the scale of needs, ensuring freedom of movement for the population and the safe and regular delivery of humanitarian aid.
In the same context, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Abdullah Al-Saadi, warned yesterday of the deterioration of the humanitarian situation due to Houthi attacks on civilians and state institutions, particularly in the governorates of Taiz, Marib, and Aden. He called for urgent international action to end the siege, ensure freedom of movement, and guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid, pointing out the casualties and displacement caused by these attacks.
