Rubio Calls on Cubans to Secretly Cooperate with U.S. Intelligence
Rubio urges Cubans to secretly cooperate with U.S. intelligence amid rising tensions.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Cubans to secretly cooperate with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a move that comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Havana. Rubio, in a post on the "X" platform on Saturday, stated that the time has come to bring about positive change in Cuba, urging the exploitation of disappointment stemming from unfulfilled promises, corruption, and privileges enjoyed by a few, in order to achieve the desired change through secret cooperation with the agency.

For his part, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez rejected U.S. threats, warning that Cuban coasts will not be a suitable environment for those arriving with hostile intentions and a desire for dominance. In the same context, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio described Washington's call for cooperation with the CIA as an open recruitment campaign, considering it to reflect a state of desperation within the agency.

He noted that U.S. President Donald Trump spoke yesterday, Friday, during a gathering in Florida, about potential U.S. military movements near Cuba, mentioning the possibility of sending Rubio to negotiate. Washington imposed new restrictions on energy supplies to Cuba last January, threatening to impose sanctions on countries supplying it with fuel, a move that increases economic pressure and the U.S. trade embargo on the island since 1962.
