On Saturday morning, the Ukrainian capital Kyiv was subjected to a violent and qualitative Russian missile attack, carried out in two consecutive waves, which resulted in a series of huge explosions throughout the city, and the full activation of air defense systems and sirens to urge residents to take shelter.
The head of the military administration in Kyiv, Timur Tkachenko, confirmed in an urgent statement on the "Telegram" application, that Russian forces launched an intensive missile attack that targeted infrastructure and vital neighborhoods in the capital, calling on citizens to stay in safe places. Sources on the ground indicated that at least five violent explosions were heard in the first wave, followed by other ballistic strikes shortly afterwards, as Moscow's use of high-speed ballistic missiles has become a complex and new challenge to Ukraine's interception capabilities.
Ukrainian drones suffocate Russian energy facilities
This Russian escalation came after a large-scale strategic campaign carried out by the Ukrainian Air Force, targeting the energy artery and fuel sources deep inside Russia.
Ukraine's General Staff revealed that a series of vital oil facilities were shelled and destroyed, including the Ilsky oil refinery in the Krasnodar region, the Ust-Luga refinery complex in the Leningrad region, as well as the Rostov gas station and depot.
Field reports indicated that the attacks also targeted 10 Russian fuel tankers and damaged about 50 supply ships in the Sea of Azov, with the aim of isolating Crimea and cutting off logistical supplies from the front lines of Russian forces. These concentrated strikes have caused a clear paralysis in Russia's energy sector, with gasoline production in Russia falling to just about 65% of its usual levels, and Moscow officially being forced to impose a blanket ban on diesel exports to ensure that domestic market needs and military operations are met.
Zelensky establishes military command to strike deep into Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in a speech yesterday evening that a strategic decision has been made to establish a separate and special military command, whose operational and combat tasks will be focused entirely on managing and intensifying qualitative strikes deep inside Russia.
Zelenskyy explained that this new command will be given broad powers and will include special attack forces, rapid reaction teams, and advanced drones, stressing that the main goal of this step is to concentrate and direct all available military resources to reduce and fragment the Russian Federation's ability to continue war and aggression.
The targeting of Russia's energy sector and the establishment of a dedicated depth command represent a significant shift in Ukraine's strategy to shift the cost of war within Russia's borders, and these developments come at a time when Moscow is relying on its hypersonic ballistic missile weapon to put pressure on the air defense systems in the capital Kyiv and neutralize its defense capabilities.
