Deputy Commander of the Libyan National Forces, Saddam Hafter, held talks on Thursday in Benghazi with a high-level British delegation to enhance cooperation and coordination in military, security, and economic fields, alongside counter-terrorism and irregular migration efforts, according to a statement from the Libyan National Forces.
The statement clarified that the delegation included Major General John Clark, commander of the Global Integrated Defense System, and British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds. The meeting addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, exchange views on issues of common interest, and discuss recent developments in Libya and the region.
For his part, the British delegation affirmed the United Kingdom's support for efforts aimed at unifying Libyan institutions, which contributes to enhancing stability in the country. Both sides agreed on the importance of continuing communication and consultation to strengthen joint cooperation paths that serve the mutual interests of the two countries.
Libya is experiencing a political crisis amid the existence of two competing governments; the first is the Government of National Unity led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, based in Tripoli, and the second is the government of Osama Hammad, based in Benghazi. The UN Support Mission in Libya is making efforts to hold elections that end the political crisis and lead to the unification of the country's institutions.
