Doctors from the "Let's Recover Together – SAMZ 16" mission, on its twelfth day, performed free heart surgeries at the Latakia Heart Diseases and Surgery Hospital, alongside specialized lectures for medical staff at the Latakia University Hospital, aiming to combine treatment with the exchange of medical expertise.
The mission's work, which is the first for the Syrian American Medical Association in Latakia Governorate, continues until next Thursday, following preparatory rounds that included Jableh, Al-Haffah, and Salma, and coordination with the Health Directorate to identify the most urgent cases and required surgeries in several hospitals in the governorate, ensuring that medical services are directed to the patients most in need.
Full Support for the Most Needy Patients
Cardiac interventionalist Dr. Malham Al-Dairy of "SAMZ" confirmed in a statement to SANA on Monday that the goal is to provide medical services to the most needy patients and perform surgeries for them free of charge, noting that patient selection was carried out professionally and accurately at the hospital, and that mission doctors perform surgeries in collaboration with local doctors who possess extensive experience.
For his part, the hospital's medical director, Dr. Louay Khalilou, pointed out that there are many registered cases waiting for a similar initiative, including patients who are repeatedly hospitalized and unable to undergo surgeries due to their financial circumstances, explaining that the campaign at the Heart Hospital spans three days, covering ten patients daily, in addition to emergency cases requiring direct intervention.
Earlier, a medical team from "SAMZ" visited the emergency department at Latakia National Hospital, participated in assessing critical cases and developing treatment plans, as well as discussing several clinical cases with doctors to exchange expertise. "SAMZ" is one of the most prominent Syrian medical associations abroad, carrying out periodic specialized missions that provide free diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services, along with training programs for local staff, as part of its continuous efforts to support the health sector in Syria.
