Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah held talks today, Wednesday, in the capital Riyadh with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman al-Safadi, on the latest regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions and enhance security and stability in the region.
For his part, a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that both sides reviewed efforts aimed at limiting the spread of conflicts, which contributes to consolidating respect for international law and principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in the affairs of states. The talks also included ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, thereby enhancing global market stability and the smooth flow of trade.
In the same context, both sides addressed recent developments in the region, foremost among which is the continuation of Houthi attacks on Saudi territory. Al-Safadi affirmed his country's solidarity with Saudi Arabia in facing these attacks, and its full support for all steps it takes to protect its security, stability, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
He noted that both sides reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them to achieve common interests and enhance cooperation in various fields. In this context, both sides signed an amended protocol for the minutes of the establishment of the Saudi-Jordanian Higher Coordination Council, which aims to enhance cooperation and coordination in various fields serving the interests of both countries and their peoples.
The foreign ministers of both countries will preside over the Council's General Secretariat, while the ministries of foreign affairs will oversee its work, including preparing for its meetings and those of the ministerial committees emanating from it. The two sides had discussed developments in the region during a phone call last Saturday.
