The organizing committee confirms preparations for the 2027 Asian Cup are on schedule in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al-Khobar.

The local organizing committee for the 2027 Asian Cup on Friday confirmed that preparations to host the tournament in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are continuing according to the specified schedule, amid growing speculation about the possibility of postponing the tournament to 2028 due to regional security conditions and Houthi attacks.

The committee stated in a statement on the American platform "X" that preparations are proceeding according to the approved schedule, in close coordination with the Asian Football Confederation and relevant authorities, emphasizing its commitment to continuing work according to approved plans and providing the necessary resources to organize the tournament.

Monitoring organizational developments

The committee added that work is ongoing in various organizational and operational aspects, including the preparation of stadiums, facilities, and supporting services, with the aim of providing a distinguished experience for participating national teams, fans, and media coming from across the continent. It noted that it is monitoring developments related to the tournament to ensure suitable conditions for its successful hosting.

Tournament details and participants

The statement came amid escalating speculation regarding the fate of the next edition, following comments by the president of the Asian Football Confederation, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, who indicated that developments in the region are being monitored, with all options remaining open, including the possibility of postponing the tournament to 2028.

The 19th edition of the Asian Cup is scheduled to take place from January 7 to February 5, 2027, with the participation of 24 national teams, across 8 stadiums distributed among three Saudi cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al-Khobar, in a historic hosting for the Kingdom to enhance its presence on the international sports stage.
