Saudi Arabia declares threat lifted over four provinces after early warnings
Saudi Civil Defense lifts threat over four southern provinces following early warnings amid escalating Houthi attacks.

The Saudi Civil Defense announced on Sunday that the threat had been lifted over the provinces of Tanoumah, Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Al-Namas in the southwest of the Kingdom, following the issuance of early warnings to alert of a danger, without clarifying its nature. This came in posts published by the Civil Defense via the American platform "X," urging residents to continue following instructions and to completely avoid gathering and filming.

The Civil Defense had previously announced in posts the activation of warnings via the National Early Warning Platform for emergencies to alert of a danger in Tanoumah, Khamis Mushait, and Abha, without mentioning the Al-Namas province at that stage. The posts did not include details regarding the nature or causes of the danger, while warning that filming or disseminating information related to countering missiles and drones exposes perpetrators to legal accountability.

These developments come amid escalating attacks launched by the Yemeni Houthi group using missiles and drones against Saudi Arabia. On Sunday, the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile launched by the group towards the capital Riyadh, a cruise missile towards Khamis Mushait province, as well as two drones in the Riyadh area.

The spokesperson for the coalition forces, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, stated that coalition forces intercepted and destroyed the two missiles and two drones, without providing details regarding casualties or injuries. Since July 2026, the group has escalated its attacks against Saudi Arabia, with the pace intensifying during October in conjunction with the expansion of military operations in Yemen.

On October 4, the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council announced the start of a comprehensive military operation named "Yemen's Dawn" against the Houthis, while the coalition supporting legitimacy confirmed its continued support for the Yemeni government and its armed forces to regain control of areas under the group's control. Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government against the Houthis, who have controlled the capital Sanaa and other provinces since September 2014.

A UN-brokered ceasefire that began in April 2022 contributed to reducing the intensity of fighting and cross-border attacks, and relative calm continued after its expiration, before military escalation resumed starting from last July.
